The Cottage, Thorpeness, Suffolk
Renovation & Extension
This project is the extension and remodelling this 18th century cottage in the Thorpeness conservation area, Suffolk. The proposal will double the size of the building but it’s design disguises this additional mass to allow it to sit comfortably within its surroundings.
Dating back to a time before the Ogilvie family had developed Thorpeness to be as we now know it, the cottage is of historical significance. Achieving planning permission for a modern design required a sensitive and justified approach, including the use of black painted timber with white detailing - a reinterpretation of the predominate local materials.
It’s currently a two up two down but when completed it will provide three bedrooms, a bathroom, en-suite, wc, office, living room, and a kitchen diner connected to the garden.
Having achieved planning permission we’re looking forward to delivering this project on site and continuing the design journey which will include the interior design.
